I
t's been a busy and successful year for
WAG, and we are proud of what we accomplished.
Once again,
we placed about 100
animals in loving homes, and, as always,
it makes everything worthwhile
when we
see the happy faces
after a successful placement. Thanks to our continued careful
screening and foster-first
program, we are maintaining
our 99% successful
placement rate.
We wish we could say
that we are getting
fewer calls about animals that need
our assistance, but unfortunately,
that number has risen again. So we are asking you to support this annual appeal, Room In Your Heart,
more
than ever before.
Last year, WAG
volunteers fielded more than 3,500 calls;
currently, WAG is
averaging 20 calls per day,
most
of which are to surrender
an animal. Frequently, households have multiple animals to place.
We are not alone
in this: every New Hampshire shelter
is facing a similar situation, especially with cats. As a
result, animals are staying with us longer, even
young, healthy animals with no issues.
So our program to help
animals that need special care or are with
us long term, Room in Your Heart,
has many more
animals than
usual, and
it is these animals that
we are asking you to support right now. Currently, it costs us
about $250 a
year to care for
a cat, and $500 for a
dog. The more money we take in,
the more animals we can help.
WAG has no paid
staff; we are all volunteers, so your gift will go directly
towards animal care. Please use the
